Three minutes walk from Curlew cottage, you will find the historical site of the former High Rake lead mine. Archaeological excavations and conservation work were undertaken by the Peak District Mines Historical Society, between 2000 and 2008 on this, “lost” 19th century mine.
Here you can view the remains of a 700 foot shaft, with a huge boiler and engine house with two chimneys. There are panoramic views north across to the Kinder plateau, with Win Hill and Lose Hill, and to the West is the magnificent Hucklow Edge.
